Select the field and application basis

Global Talent ↗ is for established or potential leaders in academia and research, arts and culture, or digital technology. First identify the specific category and applicable criteria. A successful career alone does not establish eligibility in a chosen field.

An endorsement by a competent organisation is normally required. The exception concerns a specific prestigious prize appearing on the official list: another award from the same institution or membership of a winning team is insufficient. Check the exact award and who is named as its winner.

Map evidence to the criteria

For each criterion, identify the claim, supporting document, date and your personal contribution. Separate the company's achievement from evidence of your own role. A website link is more useful when accompanied by a clear document explaining the context; do not expect an assessor to reconstruct a project's history independently.

The academic route ↗ distinguishes eligible appointments, fellowships, research grants and peer review. In arts and culture ↗, the evidence depends on the specialism. Do not apply digital technology's letter counts and portfolio requirements to every other category.

Obtain recommendations meeting current requirements

For example, digital technology ↗ requires a CV, three recommendation letters and no more than ten documents addressing the criteria. Referees must be established experts familiar with your work for at least 12 months. Their letters must provide different examples and be specifically prepared for this application; a routine HR reference is not an equivalent substitute.

Give referees the facts and criteria in advance while leaving the assessment in their own voice. Check signatures, dates, author credentials and formatting. Remove unnecessary client personal data and obtain permission to disclose confidential material where required.

Separate endorsement, visa and immigration deadlines

An endorsement is not a visa. The official digital technology guidance ↗ states that an endorsement application or review does not extend existing UK immigration permission. If your current visa is expiring, check the eligibility and timing of the separate visa application early. Applying simultaneously carries the risk of visa refusal if endorsement is rejected.

In October 2026, the overall Global Talent application fee is listed as £766: £561 for endorsement and £205 for the visa where endorsement is required. IHS and separate family applications increase the budget. Choose the permission duration you need and check whether switching inside the UK is permitted. The visa may offer flexibility over employers and self-employment, but future settlement depends on your category's own conditions and qualifying period, rather than a positive endorsement alone.
