Check NHS eligibility

In England, HPV vaccination is offered in school Year 8. Girls who missed it remain eligible before their 25th birthday; eligible boys must also have been born on or after 1 September 2006. UKHSA guidance ↗ explains these criteria and vaccination for people arriving from overseas.

Finishing school or moving from another country does not automatically mean you must pay. Give the GP your date of birth and vaccination records.

Where to arrange an appointment

For schoolchildren, contact the school vaccination team; missed doses can also be discussed with the school nurse or GP. There is a local vaccination route for children outside school. Ask which service arranges appointments in your area.

A separate sexual-health or HIV-clinic programme covers men who have sex with men before their 46th birthday. Certain other higher-risk groups are assessed individually. The NHS HPV guide ↗ describes the routes.

If you already received doses

Bring the product name, dates and number of doses, including overseas records. Do not automatically restart. The schedule depends on age, immune status and previous vaccination; a healthcare professional should compare your records with current recommendations.

Mention pregnancy or immunosuppressive treatment before booking. Someone else's schedule may be unsuitable even when the vaccine has the same name.

Private vaccination and follow-up

If the free programme does not cover you, discuss the benefits and limitations of private vaccination with a qualified professional. Request the full-course price, consultation fees and appointment-transfer terms.

Vaccination does not treat an existing HPV infection or replace cervical screening invitations. Keep proof of each dose and ask for the information to be recorded in your medical record, avoiding unnecessary repetition when changing clinics.
