Past delivery experience does not establish that a route still operates. Check UK-to-Russia and Russia-to-UK separately, giving the exact postcode, contents and weight. A company may accept documents while restricting goods or particular territories.
When checked in October 2026, Royal Mail states that it continues dispatching mail to Russia ↗. This is neither a delivery-time promise nor permission for every item. Recheck the bulletin, destination page ↗ and booking system before paying.
Check the goods against several sets of rules
Prepare an exact inventory, including electronic models, cosmetic ingredients and quantities. Check carrier restrictions and destination customs rules. For Russia-related goods, also check current UK sanctions guidance ↗. Restrictions concern particular goods, transactions and persons, not only payment methods.
A personal parcel or gift is not a universal exception. If classification is unclear, obtain confirmation from the carrier and appropriate authority before dispatch. Do not replace the contents description with “gift” or route items through another country to evade a prohibition.
Prepare paperwork and packaging
Establish whether the shipment is correspondence only or contains goods. Goods need accurate customs information, a genuine value and the appropriate form. Address it in the carrier’s accepted format, include permitted recipient contact details and keep the declaration.
For original documents, check replacement possibilities, protective packaging and compensation conditions. Postal compensation may not cover the consequences of losing an important document. Photograph the contents and packaging without publishing personal document pages.
Compare total costs and possible delays
Request postage, end-to-end tracking, compensation limits, exclusions and return arrangements. Establish who pays import charges and clearance fees. A delivery aim is not a guaranteed date; customs checks can extend the journey.
Retain the receipt, tracking and service description. Follow the contracted carrier’s tracing procedure after a delay. Handing the parcel to an unknown traveller for a promised quick delivery leaves responsibility and contents harder to establish without a clear agreement.
