Finding a London gym with a suitable pool

Check the pool itself

A gym with a pool may offer proper swimming lanes or a small leisure pool. Specify whether you want training, a quiet after-work swim or relaxation. Check length, depth, indoor or outdoor setting and suitable session types.

Better’s swimming page ↗ provides a starting point, followed by each centre’s timetable. Building hours are not pool availability: schools, lessons and dedicated sessions can occupy it.

Match membership to access

Better’s monthly options ↗ illustrate differences in centres and access times. Other operators have their own products. Obtain confirmation that your tariff includes the intended pool, lane swimming and required hours. The label gym membership does not answer these questions alone.

Ask about reservations, session length and repeat-visit restrictions. For women-only sessions, verify the particular timetable and conditions, including changing access, rather than assuming uniform arrangements across a chain.

Visit at your intended time

Try a paid single visit before an annual commitment. Assess lane occupancy, speed signs, showers, lockers, cleanliness and travel. Check swimming-cap and poolside footwear rules. Sauna or steam-room access and equipment availability may require separate confirmation.

If you cannot swim confidently, seek adult lessons or an appropriate introductory session. Ordinary lane swimming does not include personal teaching; a lifeguard does not turn it into a lesson.

Costs and flexibility

Compare membership with single visits using realistic frequency. Include joining fees, towels, lockers and travel. Ask about alternatives during a lengthy pool closure, freezes, minimum terms and cancellation.

Save the terms before payment. If swimming is your main aim, compare swim-only or pay-as-you-go provision with combined access. Choose an option that enables regular visits at useful times rather than merely promising a pool in the building.
