Understand the label “professional”

A salon brand or consultation-led product is not a medicine merely because of its positioning. Define your goal: cleansing, moisturising, sun protection or a more comfortable texture. Persistent rash, pain or a skin disorder needs an appropriate medical route rather than simply a more expensive range.

List products you already use. This avoids buying several items for the same job or changing everything together. Consider sensitivity, fragrance, texture and realistic daily use.

Verify the retailer with the brand

For example, Dermalogica publishes an authorised-retailer list ↗. Find the shop there or seek confirmation from the manufacturer. A logo on a shop's website proves little; absence from a list should prompt clarification rather than an automatic counterfeit allegation.

Check the seller's business details, returns address, delivery terms and receipt arrangements. On a marketplace, identify the seller of the actual item: the platform and dispatching business may differ.

Compare like-for-like prices

Use matching volume and product version. A large professional bottle, miniature, gift set and reformulated product are different purchases. A discounted bundle offers value only when you need its contents.

Request an available sample and written application plan. Establish whether consultation costs money and whether any fee can be redeemed against purchases; do not assume this without terms. Keep recommendations so you can compare them with your current routine.

On delivery

Check packaging, volume, seals, labelling and batch identification. OPSS explains cosmetic information and symbols ↗. Ask about missing details before applying the product.

Introduce products according to clear manufacturer instructions. Stop after an adverse reaction and obtain appropriate help. A change in scent or texture may reflect reformulation; ask the brand instead of relying on an unverified chat comment.
