How to arrange a Russian visa for a British spouse or partner

Your partner's British nationality, a spouse's Russian citizenship and living together in the UK are different circumstances. For an ordinary British passport, plan around a consular visa. Russia's unified eVisa ↗ is restricted to nationals of an approved list; UK residence or having a Russian partner does not add someone to that list.
Before applying, consider the current FCDO advice ↗ against all travel to Russia. A visa is not a confirmation of safety or guaranteed admission.
Distinguish a spouse from an unmarried partner
A family private-visa route exists for British nationals with a Russian immediate family member. Establish which relationships qualify and the evidence required. Unmarried cohabitation cannot automatically be treated as marriage for this purpose.
First identify a valid category: private visit, family basis or genuine tourism. Then establish the required basis, such as a formal invitation or a Russian relative's application where that procedure applies. Do not buy an arbitrary voucher on the assumption that it replaces every family document.
Complete the form and arrange submission
The official conventional visa form is at visa.kdmid.ru ↗. Select the country and submission location carefully, save the application details and print it as instructed. Identify the current consular channel through the Russian foreign ministry's directory ↗, rather than an advertising result.
Confirm the UK document list: passport, photograph, basis of visit, relationship evidence, necessary translations and UK residence evidence. If an invitation is arranged in Russia, that preparation precedes visa submission and needs its own time allowance. Clarify copies, certification and any attendance required of the Russian relative before paying a notary.
Biometrics, charges and passport return
GOV.UK describes personal fingerprint submission for UK applicants aged 12 and above at designated centres. Confirm current appointments and the provider through official links. Separate consular fees, service charges and any additional expenses; an expedited service does not guarantee approval.
Establish passport retention and return arrangements. Once issued, check your name, category, dates and entries. For a conventional Russian visa, GOV.UK states that the passport needs at least six months' validity beyond visa expiry. Separately check current obligations after arrival and the documents needed to leave.
