A relocation budget with three scenarios
Calculate ordinary costs and a realistic financial margin.
Build the base case
List accommodation, deposits, bills, transport, food, phone and essential setup costs. Separate one-off spending from monthly spending. Use quotes relevant to your destination and household rather than a generic headline figure.
Add a cautious case
Model a delay in finding work or housing, a temporary stay and higher travel costs. Identify which expenses can be postponed. The purpose is to understand the effect of uncertainty, not to predict an exact outcome.
Add a reduced-cost case
Test a smaller area, fewer paid activities or different travel arrangements while preserving essential needs. Compare the effect on time and daily life as well as money.
Check timing
Record when each payment is due and when income is expected. A sufficient total amount may still leave a temporary gap if deposits and bills arrive together.
Review after arrival
Compare real spending with the plan during the first month. Adjust using actual bills and journeys. Treat financial products separately: this checklist does not recommend a bank account or investment.
