How to buy extra baggage and check it through a connection

Open the booking and make a table listing each flight, operating airline, included baggage, number of pieces, weight per piece and dimensions. The ticket seller and operating carrier may differ. Use the allowance shown for each particular leg, especially when connecting between airlines.
The CAA explains ↗ that airlines set their allowances, and pooling baggage between passengers is permitted only where the airline's rules allow it. A family's combined weight allowance does not automatically remove the limit for one suitcase.
Extra weight versus an extra suitcase
Establish whether the product is sold as total weight or as another piece of baggage. Buying ten extra kilograms does not necessarily permit a second bag. Similarly, paying for two pieces does not necessarily allow combining them into one very heavy suitcase.
Purchase through the airline's Manage booking facility or the retailer where it controls the reservation. Check whether the purchase covers one flight, every outbound leg or the return as well. Keep a receipt showing the passenger and relevant flights, and confirm that the option appears in the booking.
Confirm through-checking
Before departure, ask the airline a precise question: must you collect baggage at the connecting airport on this ticket and itinerary? One email from an aggregator does not prove that you hold a single protected ticket. For a self-transfer, plan to collect and recheck your bag unless the carrier explicitly confirms otherwise.
Ask again at the first check-in desk. Inspect the final airport code printed on the baggage tag and keep its receipt. If the code is not what you expected, resolve the issue before leaving the desk. Some routes or countries require passenger action even when carriage is arranged to the final destination; ask for the specific instructions.
Time and a contingency plan
For a self-transfer, allow time for border formalities, baggage reclaim, changing terminals, bag drop and another security check. You may need permission to enter the connecting country. Check travel documents separately from baggage arrangements.
Keep necessary medication, documents and a basic change of items in permitted cabin baggage. Photograph and label the suitcase, and retain receipts. Paying for baggage does not insure against delay or guarantee that a separately booked onward flight will wait.
