BIAB overlays and nail extensions: what to clarify before booking

An overlay is not automatically an extension

BIAB is The GelBottle's Builder In A Bottle product name. A salon may use it on a menu for a natural-nail overlay, an infill or a service adding length. Before choosing a slot, ask what that particular booking includes.

If you want longer nails, specify the length and confirm whether building extensions is included. For short natural nails, an overlay without extra length may be sufficient. A broad description such as strengthening does not explain the material, shape or intended structure.

Identify the actual product

The manufacturer offers different formulations: see an All-In-One BIAB example ↗ and its explanation of base-coat requirements ↗. Do not assume every product carrying the name has identical properties.

Ask for the system name, removal method and maintenance advice in writing. HEMA-free and TPO-free describe particular ingredients; neither promises that every possible reaction is excluded. If you have had an allergy, discuss it with a clinician before another coating and give the technician the advice you receive.

Budget for the whole maintenance cycle

Compare the initial application, any removal of another salon's product, infills, repairs and eventual removal. Check charges for colour over the builder product, nail art and additional length. An inexpensive first visit may be inconvenient if maintenance appointments are scarce or require costly travel.

Request an individual review and maintenance plan. Do not copy someone else's appointment interval: product condition, growth and nail structure vary. Agree on what to do if a nail chips or lifts between appointments.

Watch for problems afterwards

A coating should not conceal a painful or inflamed nail. Seek medical advice for unusual pain, itching or skin changes. The BAD information on contact dermatitis ↗ explains why identifying the cause matters.

Do not glue a lifting area down with household adhesive or peel the material off. Contact the salon, send a photograph and arrange an assessment. A record of the exact product will also help another technician plan removal and help a clinician assess any reaction.
