Social media management, paid advertising, SEO and full marketing are different services. Specify whether you need bookings, sales of a product, enquiries or awareness of a new venue. Describe the audience, location, budget and constraints. Otherwise, agency proposals are difficult to compare.
Prepare baseline enquiries, sales, order value and available capacity. If you cannot accommodate more customers, booking improvements may be needed before extra advertising.
Check relevant work
Request examples from comparable businesses and an explanation of the candidate’s contribution. Ask about timing, starting conditions, ad spend and measurement. Follower growth alone does not demonstrate sales growth.
Discuss one of your actual problems. A useful answer explains priorities, required material and how a hypothesis would be tested. You need not demand a complete free strategy, but request a clear paid first-stage plan and sample report.
Separate fees from media spending
Itemise management, photography, design, copy, translation, ad budget and platform charges. Agree publication numbers, revisions, response times and responsibility for approving health, financial or other specialist claims.
ASA/CAP explains influencer-advertising identification ↗. An agency should understand applicable rules rather than promise advertising nobody recognises. Before sharing customer lists, check ICO small-business guidance ↗.
Retain control of business assets
Keep domains, advertising accounts, audiences and principal profiles under business control; give the contractor an appropriate access role. Do not surrender the sole recovery method. Agree rights to copy, photographs, source files, reports and handover on termination.
Start with a bounded stage and measurable outcome: an audit, tracking setup or campaign test. Check duration, notice, payment, pauses and spending limits requiring approval. Guaranteed sales without understanding your product, offer and budget are a poor basis for a large advance. Evaluate lead cost and quality after the agreed period, not merely an attractive feed.
