Describe actual use

A fitted wardrobe needs an inventory as well as wall dimensions: long clothes, shoes, luggage and equipment. A workspace needs suitable height, light, sockets and cable access. Define the function before selecting fronts and handles.

Design and technical measurement

An attractive visualisation is not a working drawing. Agree compartment sizes, door movement and access to ventilation, skirting and services. Check that drawers open with the bed in position.

A technical survey must account for actual floors and uneven walls. Clarify responsibility for final dimensions and later changes. Obtain necessary permission before commissioning fitted furniture in rented property.

Materials and quotation

Specify carcass and front materials, thickness, finish, fittings, internal components and loads. Request physical samples. Bespoke can describe different levels of customisation, so establish what dimensions and details can actually change.

Include design, manufacturing, transport, stairs, fitting, VAT and packaging removal. Agree wall preparation, electrical changes and old-furniture removal separately. Do not assume them included without a written scope.

Dates, payments and inspection

Record timing, payment stages and cancellation or amendment conditions after production starts. Coordinate installation with other renovation work. An unprepared room can cause delays and extra charges.

Inspect dimensions, alignment, doors, drawers, stability and finish. Record outstanding work and correction dates and retain drawings and invoices. Ask about care, fitting adjustments and guarantee exclusions. A small gap and an incorrectly sized compartment need different remedies, so obtain a specific written snagging list.
