Buying hair colour and related supplies in the UK

Replacing a familiar overseas formula requires the exact range, shade, developer and instructions, not only a number. Matching digits across brands do not promise matching colour. Photograph complete product details and discuss alternatives with a stylist who knows your hair.
Sally Beauty lists colour and bleach supplies ↗. A professional product being available to buy does not establish suitability for untrained home use.
Check the complete system
Establish whether developer, gloves and tools are included. Follow manufacturer compatibility and mixing instructions rather than substituting components based on similar percentages. Lightening, uneven-colour correction and unknown history merit consultation.
Read the full label and understandable instructions. Avoid decanted chemicals without original identification and batch details. Bulk buying is poor value if the opened product cannot be used within its specified period.
Tests and skin condition
Allergy alert and strand tests have different purposes. NHS explains dye reactions ↗ and following instructions. Previous uneventful use does not exclude a later reaction.
Do not colour irritated or damaged skin or continue through a reaction to finish the process. Severe reactions require urgent medical assistance. Testing should not be described as a guarantee against every future problem.
Buying and storage
Choose an identifiable seller and check intact packaging, durability and unopened-return terms. Confirm delivery and category restrictions online. Retain receipts and batch numbers.
Store as directed away from children and food. Do not retain mixed chemicals for another session unless explicitly allowed. Compare the total cost of home attempts and correction with a colourist consultation: a cheap tube can lead to an expensive repair appointment.
