Check the exact model

Home IPL and clinical laser use different devices and treatment arrangements. Before buying, find the full manual and skin/hair compatibility chart. Price or a skin-tone sensor does not make a device universally suitable.

Philips explains IPL compatibility checks ↗. This is manufacturer information about its devices, not an independent ranking of all brands. Verify each model separately.

Read restrictions

Check pregnancy, breastfeeding, medicines, skin conditions, tanning and permitted areas. Philips prohibits specified Lumea models during pregnancy and breastfeeding ↗, because they were not tested in those groups. Lack of study is not proof of safety.

Read restrictions around eyes, tattoos, moles and sensitive areas. Do not bypass a sensor or choose intensity from another customer's advice. Discuss uncertain medication or skin compatibility with a clinician.

Expectations and schedule

Follow the manual for testing, preparation, treatment intervals and maintenance. More frequent use does not necessarily improve results and can increase injury risk. Assess change over the period described in instructions rather than after one flash.

Stop and seek clinical advice for significant pain, burns or unusual reactions. An expensive purchase does not justify continuing despite symptoms.

Compare the budget

Include device cost, appropriate attachments, warranty, servicing and your time. Establish return conditions for opened hygiene products and any trial period before paying. Home treatment is good value only if the device suits you and its schedule is practical. A discount does not demonstrate effectiveness.
