How to arrange private blood tests in London

Читать на русскомPrivate blood tests can be arranged through a private GP, specialist or self-pay laboratory service. Establish the question being investigated and who will interpret the result. Buying a panel does not replace consultation for new or significant symptoms.
Identify the investigations needed
For clinician-requested tests, obtain exact names, the clinical indication and timing requirements. Match overseas terminology with UK test names before paying. A “general blood test” may mean full blood count, while “biochemistry” can describe different panels.
Without a request, start by discussing symptoms. NHS blood tests likewise depend on conditions, medicines and the clinical question. NHS: blood tests ↗.
Check booking routes and the laboratory
Some services require referral; others offer direct self-pay booking. Nuffield Health describes both, including Pathology Direct without referral for its available tests. This does not establish availability of every unusual test at every site. Nuffield Health: blood tests ↗.
Ask which laboratory processes the sample. Check accreditation and its scope in the UKAS directory ↗, and CQC registration for relevant regulated English clinical services. A laboratory logo does not establish the usefulness of every package.
Confirm total charges and preparation
Ask whether phlebotomy, testing, reports, medical interpretation, failed-sample repeats and delivery are included. Obtain insurer authorisation before booking; independently purchased panels may not be covered.
Follow test-specific instructions. Fasting is not always required; time of day, medicines and supplements affect some measurements. Do not stop medication yourself. Mention fainting and accessibility requirements.
Obtain results and an action plan
Before paying, establish turnaround, urgent-result procedures and the responsible clinician. Download the complete report with units and reference ranges. An out-of-range result is not a diagnosis, and normal panels cannot exclude every cause of symptoms.
Agree follow-up and transfer of key results to your GP. NHS GPs assess further action independently; private recommendations do not automatically secure all requested NHS tests. Seek medical help for deterioration rather than waiting for an electronic report.
