Collect the tattoo's age, colours, cover-ups and previous removal attempts. Ask about skin assessment and whether the aim is lightening for another design or maximal removal. These are different outcomes.
North Bristol NHS explains ink-dependent response ↗ and the absence of guaranteed complete clearance. Advertising removal of every colour cannot replace assessment and suitable technology.
Check the clinic
Identify the laser model, training, experience with similar colours and skin tones, insurance and eye protection. Discuss testing, assessment intervals and gaps between sessions.
Sandwell NHS describes laser tattoo-removal risks ↗. Pigment changes, scarring and incomplete response need discussion. Permanent makeup near eyes requires separate assessment rather than automatically using an arm-tattoo protocol.
Preparation and healing
Disclose tanning, medicines, pigment allergy, skin conditions and pregnancy. A short appointment does not establish safety. Obtain written sunlight, dressing and aftercare instructions.
Ask how expected reactions differ from burns or infection and whom to contact. Avoid picking healing skin or using home acids to accelerate clearance. Increasing pain, pus, fever or unusual injury need clinical help.
Whole-course cost
Request consultation, testing and area-based session prices, an appointment estimate and revision conditions. A package should not promise identical session counts for everyone. Establish stopping and unused-balance terms if response is poor. Allow months for staged treatment and healing rather than planning removal immediately before an event.
