Routine care

For ongoing concerns and routine appointments, check your GP practice's process. Keep relevant appointment and prescription information available. Practice booking systems differ, and an article cannot establish what service is appropriate for particular symptoms.

Pharmacy

A pharmacist may help with medicines and some common concerns. Check opening hours and available services directly. Do not treat a general guide as advice to change or stop a prescribed medicine.

Urgent advice in England

NHS 111 can direct you when medical help is urgent and the situation is not an immediate emergency. Call 111 for children under five rather than using the online service. Ask about interpretation when needed and follow the service's instructions.

Emergency help

Call 999 for an emergency. Provide the location clearly and follow the operator. Do not wait to complete GP registration before seeking emergency assistance.

Different nations

Healthcare services and access arrangements differ across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Use the relevant official NHS or health-service information for your location. Keep urgent contacts accessible to everyone travelling with you.
