Choose the correct procedure

If your eVisa shows an incorrect date of birth, name or immigration status, start with Report an error with your eVisa ↗. This service also covers certain technical problems: for example, you can see the eVisa but cannot get a share code, or a technical error prevents it from opening after sign-in.

If the information was correct but you later obtained a new passport or changed your name or address, use Update your UKVI account ↗. Lost access to a phone or email requires account recovery. Describe the actual problem: “my eVisa does not work” can refer to several different procedures.

Prepare the report

Compare the record with your decision letter and identity document. Note which field is wrong and what it should say. Prepare a contact email or UK postal address, name, date of birth, nationality and one identifier listed in the official form ↗, such as a passport number, GWF, UAN or UKVI customer number.

For an incorrect name, date of birth or nationality, the service also asks for the information as it appears in the eVisa. Follow each field's instructions rather than silently replacing the incorrect information throughout the form. If evidence uploads are available, use clear files specifically relevant to the error.

Keep the report and monitor the response

Save the reference, submission date, description and acknowledgement. UKVI's current guidance aims to fix most problems within five working days and complex ones within 15; it says you will receive an email if longer is needed or further information is required. These are processing targets rather than a guarantee of resolution before travel or a job start date.

Check your email, including spam. Provide requested information through the official channel specified in the reply. After being told the error is corrected, sign in again and check both the field and your ability to obtain the required share code. An acknowledgement alone does not confirm correction.

If work, renting or travel is affected

Tell the relevant organisation that you have reported the error and agree an official verification route. The eVisa guidance ↗ links to separate right-to-work and right-to-rent services. For flights, follow the UKVI travel instructions ↗, including carrier checks through its support hub.

Correcting a displayed record does not replace challenging an adverse immigration decision. If the dispute concerns the permission actually granted rather than its technical display, check the challenge route and deadline in the decision and consult a regulated adviser. Do not allow a separate review or appeal deadline to expire while waiting for technical support.
