Indian eVisa eligibility depends on nationality, passport type, purpose and individual circumstances. UK residence does not make an ineligible passport acceptable. Open Eligibility on the official portal ↗ and use your actual nationality.
Specific restrictions concern, among other things, Pakistani citizenship or origin and certain document types. If an exclusion applies, check the conventional consular visa route rather than changing your answers. A tourist category is not suitable for employment.
Start on the government website
The official route is indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa. The High Commission of India in London ↗ directs applicants there; eVisa decisions are made in India. The word official in an agent's advertising or address does not make it a government website.
Choose e-Tourist and a product suitable for the actual journey. Read validity, permitted stay and number of entries separately. These vary by product: a one-year visa does not permit an uninterrupted one-year stay.
Complete the form and keep the number
Prepare your passport data page, digital photograph and details of yourself, previous travel and itinerary. Check name spelling, passport number and dates before submitting, and meet upload quality and format requirements. Every traveller needs their own eligible document and application.
Keep the application ID and file copies. Answer fully and truthfully, including previous nationality or origin when requested. Buying an expedited service cannot resolve inconsistent information.
Pay and check the decision
Fees depend on nationality and category, and banking charges may apply. Payment does not guarantee issuance. If money is deducted without a status update, use Verify Payment and the official instructions before paying again. The government portal warns that it does not sell emergency or express eVisas for an additional charge.
Before travelling, confirm GRANTED status and print the ETA. Check that your entry point accepts eVisas and follow passport instructions if renewing your document. Carry accommodation, return or onward itinerary and sufficient funds evidence. Separately check current arrival declarations: they do not replace an approved visa.
