A wool rug, delicate sofa and mattress are not one standard cleaning job. Send photographs, dimensions, care labels and stain details. Mention previous products because chemical residues can affect treatment choices.
NCCA provides a carpet and upholstery cleaner directory ↗. Professional membership helps begin checking training and insurance but cannot promise removal of every stain. Ask about experience with your material.
Match the method to the fabric
Establish whether cleaning happens at home or in a workshop. Discuss moisture, temperature, concealed testing and manufacturer restrictions. Steam wording alone does not explain protection for fillings, dyes and adhesives.
Avoid accepting as-new promises without assessment. Wear, fading and chemical damage are not always dirt. For mattresses, discuss odours, staining and realistic outcomes separately; ordinary cleaning does not resolve underlying pests or damp.
Quote and preparation
Include area or seats, cushion sides, stairs, stain treatment, parking and VAT in the quotation. Ask about minimum charges and call-outs. A low starting price may cover a small item rather than the entire home.
Check furniture moving, water and electricity requirements and protection for floors and walls. Document existing damage. Agree a suitable method for a landlord's valuable rug or upholstery.
Drying and inspection
Ask about drying under your actual conditions and necessary ventilation. Do not plan to sleep on a cleaned mattress that evening without confirmation. Thick damp items may take longer than an advertising example. Keep children and pets out of the work area.
Inspect with the cleaner and obtain drying instructions. Discuss remaining stains before applying your own products. Retain the invoice, agreed method and photographs. Establish deadlines and costs for any follow-up visit.
