Combining ESOL with work depends on the actual days, travel and independent study involved. Part-time does not automatically mean evening provision. Map a normal week of shifts and commitments, then add travel and homework.

Questions before enrolment
Request the whole course calendar, not just the first week. Check session length, holidays, examination dates and required attendance. Ask whether moving groups is possible if your work pattern changes and what happens after absences. Do not assume the college can arrange an individual replacement for every missed session.
Show the provider a variable shift pattern before enrolling. A short course or separate module may be more realistic than a year-long qualification. A community course can provide additional conversation practice while your main course supplies structured learning.
Online learning needs protected time
Establish whether classes are live or recorded. You need a quiet place, reliable connection, headphones and the ability to speak aloud. Listening while working rarely substitutes for taking part in paired tasks. Check suitable devices and how written assignments are submitted.
If home conditions are difficult, ask about study space and technical support. Do not choose an online course simply because you can open it on a phone.
Costs and a sustainable plan
Employment does not automatically exclude funding, but free tuition is assessed separately under the applicable rules. Request the final fee, materials and withdrawal terms before payment. Start with a manageable workload and several short periods of independent study. If the timetable stops working, contact the college promptly: unexplained absence may affect your place and ability to complete the qualification.
